I look forward to that post, whenever you complete it.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I’ve wanted for a while now to write a post about victimhood, explanation, and justification, but haven’t managed to finish a draft, just the footnote. It’s really a key problem in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

I found that post hopeful and a good reminder to have patience. If people of different and strong-held opinions try to reach agreement on something, it helps if they all go in with open-hearted good faith and a belief in each other’s good will. At the same time, the desire to lash out is difficult to restrain. I don’t know how you’re feeling about the efforts of J14 at the moment, but I appreciate your hopefulness in this post about its potential to develop into something that brings change that works for lots of people in many situations. Your footnote about victimhood and perpetrators is also right on. It’s so tempting to take on the mantle of victim as a way to excuse atrocities, while also casting the other as perpetrator and refusing to acknowledge or work to understand the other’s suffering.
