Although I’d be surprised if the industrializers knew about the Sumerian model and drew inspiration from it, rather than reinventing the same thing…
But yeah, the big innovation was applying education — any kind of education — to society as a whole.

I came across a description of the exact same kind of system of study in SUMER, of all places (in a book by Noah Kramer).

I think the big difference in the Industrial Revolution was that an attempt was made to bring ***everyone*** into the system.
